Chubascos Bodysurfing Club To The Rescue

Chubascos Bodysurfing Huntington Beach

The Chubascos to the rescue! This bodysurfing club is fighting the good fight to keep
the sport alive by bringing a FREE bodysurfing contest to Huntington Beach this
summer. The aim of the competition is to introduce more youth to bodysurfing and
handboarding. It’s such an accessible and fantastic way to have fun and get outside.

This organization started in 1983 with various members associated with the
Cerritos Aquatic Club. Over the years it has been home to over 500 members and
over 200 competitors (and growing). The Chubascos bodysurfing club is comprised
today of all walks of life- from water polo players and lifeguards, to friends and
coaches in Southern California. Anyone with an interest and love of the ocean are
invited to join in the fun!

Last year’s free contest was such a success that this year it will be held for 2 days
instead of just one, August 8th and 9th. It’s completely free and is funded solely by
donations so every bit helps. The organization doesn’t profit from the event (not
monetarily anyways). The best outcome for them would be to see more and more
bodysurfers every year and young people getting stoked on riding the shore break.

In order to put on the event, The Chubascos need to raise $8,000. Currently they are
about 1/3 of the way there so they still need your help! The money goes towards T-
shirts, food, fees, permits, safety, etc.- just the basics to get the event put on, nothing
fancy.

To donate go to>  Support Chubascos Bodysurfing 2015

Higher donations come with gifts like shirts and plaques. All donations come with
Facebook shout outs, which gives a nice personal touch and lets the donor know
how much their donation means.

This event is also a great one for introducing handplanes/handboards to newbies.
When surfers learn about how much faster you can shred with one, there won't be
any going back to the plain-extended-arm method. Once these surfers try a Slyde
handplane out though, forget about it- Hooked for life. Nothing shreds like a Slyde.

So a note to competitors, there’s still time to get your board! Go to
www.slydehandboards.com find a board that’s right for you, and check out the blog
for anything from health and safety information to tips and tricks in how to use your
board- on and off of the water.

Whether you're a seasoned competitor or a pedestrian that happened upon this
post, check out the Chubascos and join in on this rad free 2-day summer event!
