Welcome to the Team Willy Cole

Willy Cole Slyde team Ryder

Willy had been a regular poster to our Facebook page with tons of his stoked pictures of him getting barreled off his head around the Florida coast. I could tell just from the images he posted, this dude was a waterman and was just plain stoked to be out in the water, no matter the craft. Like all the great "watermen,” Willy doesn’t seem to give a shit what he is riding, so long as he has a fat smile on his face and he is in the water.  From short boarding to handplaning, he does it. It’s the way more of us need to be.  We can all take a leaf out of his book, forget the rest and just be stoked.

Willy Cole Slyde Team ryderI finally got to meet him to face at the recent 2013 Surf Expo in Orlando, Florida. My first thought was damn, this guy reminds me of Jay Moriarty "always smiling,” it’s infectious! It’s funny though.  It’s not just a smile, it’s a “truly stoked to be around everything I’m around right now” smile.  That’s the best way I can put it into words. Needless to say, I immediately wanted this guy representing Slyde.  He is everything we have tried to convey through the brand.  It’s just fun, so why not smile and go for it.  Stoked to have you on board bro, and welcome to the team. As more handboards find their way into the lineup, so the stoke grows.  Stay stoked and check out more on Willy’s Slyde Team Ryder page here.

Growing up in South Africa, Steve spent his youth dreaming of far off places. After spending eight years extensively traveling to many of the great surf destinations of the world getting dengue fever, having a near death experience from a falling coconut in mexico, Surviving a 15 foot drop on a handboard on a Nias bomb, jumping from every rock he could find without adequate health insurance. and comprehensively debunking the myth there are no waves in Thailand, even if they are small. He decided it was time for a a degree. Steve Graduated from Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design in London with a degree in product design. He missed his graduation to go surfing in Californian, found a kindred spirit with Venice and never left
