Willy had been a regular poster to our Facebook page with tons of his stoked pictures of him getting barreled off his head around the Florida coast. I could tell just from the images he posted, this dude was a waterman and was just plain stoked to be out in the water, no matter the craft. Like all the great "watermen,” Willy doesn’t seem to give a shit what he is riding, so long as he has a fat smile on his face and he is in the water. From short boarding to handplaning, he does it. It’s the way more of us need to be. We can all take a leaf out of his book, forget the rest and just be stoked.
I finally got to meet him to face at the recent 2013 Surf Expo in Orlando, Florida. My first thought was damn, this guy reminds me of Jay Moriarty "always smiling,” it’s infectious! It’s funny though. It’s not just a smile, it’s a “truly stoked to be around everything I’m around right now” smile. That’s the best way I can put it into words. Needless to say, I immediately wanted this guy representing Slyde. He is everything we have tried to convey through the brand. It’s just fun, so why not smile and go for it. Stoked to have you on board bro, and welcome to the team. As more handboards find their way into the lineup, so the stoke grows. Stay stoked and check out more on Willy’s Slyde Team Ryder page here.
