Slyde Exclusive Interview: Mexico Pro-Ambassador Marco Guzman

Since 2012 Slyde Pro-Ambassador Marco Guzman has been spreading the stoke across the border in Mazaltan Mexico.

DIVE INTO HIS PERSONAL SLYDE LIFE BELOW:

Where are you from/born?

I was Born and Raised in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico. I'm Mexican.

How would you describe the beach and life in Mazatlan Mexico?

The beach is wonderful for bodysurfing (most of the local points), and the people are starting to be responsible in keeping our beaches clean, cause is our greatest source of joy.

How did you get into bodysurfing/handboarding?

I saw the first local bodysurfers without fins, wearing dikies and belts, at a shore break called the BOMBA in 1985. Those years was difficult to import good fins, so I wasn't able to really try until 2012. 

You’ve been spreading the Slyde stoke to students and local schools since 2013.  Why? What’s your inspiration behind doing?  How has the response been? Any future plans?

Well I think students are the future, and when I saw the pure fun you can get for bodysurfing in any wave condition, it came to my mind the thought "The younger audiences should try it too, or at least know it." In the future, I will continue sharing with them, how the practice of bodysurfing can make you  better whether BodyBoarding, Surfing, Swimming, and of course as a human, cause it humbles you.

What's your favorite local and non-local break to Slyde?

My favorite local spot is a beach we call Chilli Peppers due to the shape of the wave, and non local Point Panic, HI, for sure.

What piece of advice or words of encouragement would you give to someone who's never experienced a Slyde Handboards before?

Any closing words of wisdom or motto to live by?

You can be the greatest pro surfer, bodyboarder, kayaker or sup, but it's when you are Slyding with direct contact with the ocean in the wave, that you start to realize that the ocean is the greatest source of peace for body and mind and well being. We should avoid wasting time contaminating it, we have to save it, as the ocean freely gives to all of us everyday.
