Slyde Recap: 2nd Annual Oahu Bodysurfing Championships at Sandy Beach Park

Kaha Nalu Hawaiiand Slyde Handboards hosted the annual 2016 Bodysurfing Championships in Oahu Hawaii Sept 23rd & 24th.

The event attracted 120 stoked bodysurfers & handboarders, alongside warm waters (79 degrees), and 1'to 3' foot fun shorebreak.

Bodysurfing has a longstanding tradition in the Hawaiian culture, and Sandy Beach in particular. The Oahu homegrown event brought together local bodysurfers from across the island, and beyond.

"Bodysurfing, called he'e umauma or kaha nalu in Hawaiian, was first enjoyed by ancient Hawaiians at the break called 'Sandy Beach' today. It is believed that bodysurfing in Hawaii was first inspired by the dolphins seen there, long before the invention of the surfboard."
