This year marks it's 43rd year at Oceanside Pier in north county San Diego. Oceanside delivers a fairly consistent break with varying swell on both the northside and southside of the pier. Waves are reserved only for bodysurfing, while the competition runs simultaneously on both sides of the pier.
Bodysurfing heats were 15minutes long and included a max of 6 competitors per heat. Judging of bodysurfers was based on wave selection, quality of takeoff, position in wave, style, length of ride (face of wave), maneuvers, and originality. There will be 12 division based on gender & age. The Men and Women's Grand Champions will be crowned on Sunday afternoon, the final day.
Slyde Handboards anticipates a talented pool of team riders to be bodysurfing in the contest, including Hawaiian legends Sean Enoka & Kealii' Punley. This contest also is a qualifier for the California Bodysurf Tour.
