Chroming it Up With Sacramento Chrome and Paint

I got a call a little while back from a guy named Ed, who told me his father-in-law had purchased one of our handboards.  He was super stoked with the board, and the thought came to him to chrome it. That’s probably not the first thing to come to the average person’s mind, however Ed was the owner of Sacramento Chrome and Paint Shop. Check them out here. The minute Ed started telling me who he was, a light went off in my head.  Before he could finish, I said, “Sick!  Chrome a handboard!!  What an awesome project!!”  Well, after trying to get it to the Surf Expo to be shown and not quite making it, the board finally arrived at our garage space to our excitement!  Now here it is to be shown to the world!

About the Spray Chrome Process

Spray chrome is a hybrid of paint and plating that allows you to coat anything from metals, ceramics, plastics, glass and even wood with a mirror-like chrome finish.  It is ideal for use where conventional electroplating and vacuum metalizing are unsuitable due to cost, size, design, substrate material or environmental issues.

Spray chrome is comprised of three proprietary coatings. Two of the coatings are essentially automotive grade paints and are applied in our state-of-the-art spray booth and cured in our one-of-a-kind curing room. The metallic coating is applied with a special spray chrome machine that applies a sprayed on electro-less plating solution.
