Bio

Dane is 25 years old and currently resides in Newport Beach ca. He started going in the ocean about 5 years ago and was mostly just riding at the time. He got a GoPro about 2 years ago and after getting that first barrel shot his life changed and his love for photography started. He got into photography because he loves to capture the scene in front of him, that moment in time and the memories that come with it. He loves the fact that someone who has never been in the ocean can feel and see things they may never have been able to before through his images. Photography brought out the creative side in him and he is constantly learning and finding different ways to improve his work. "I am truly honored and stoked for the opportunity to become a part of team Slyde!" Dane Amacher

WHAT GOT YOU STARTED IN PHOTOGRAPHY?::

It all started a few years back when I made my way back to Newport Beach after growing up in Sacramento and going to college in Colorado. I started riding everyday and I found my love for the ocean and haven't been able to step away from it since. I would ride no matter the conditions....just being in the water is what made me happy. Then I got my first GoPro. My love for photography started shortly after that first barrel shot. I thought it was the most creative and beautiful thing I had ever seen and wanted to continue to capture these amazing images for others to see as well.

WHAT PLACE WOULD YOU LIKE TO PHOTOGRAPH MOST?:

I would love to travel to Tahiti and shoot Chopes (Teahupoo).

WHAT INSPIRES YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY?

Being around others that share the same passion as I do. I can be in the water and never have met someone but at the end of the session we both come out stoked to just be out doing what we love. Seeing other photographers work is also very inspirational and hearing their story behind each image. And myself. I push myself everyday to become better at what I do...whether its work, shooting, riding, being a better person etc. Being able to look back at some old pics and seeing how far I've come inspires me to keep learning and always keeping the stoke....because why be out there if your not having any fun!

WHO INSPIRES YOU THE MOST?

Everyone around me. I am fortunate to live in a place where we have so many different types of photographers and different things to shoot. Seeing everyone's work and creativity inspires me to push myself to the limits and even put myself in some uncomfortable positions in order to get a certain shot or find a different angle. I love capturing anyone who is stoked to be in the water no matter the size/conditions.

WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST FEAR?

Not being able to get in the ocean ever again. The ocean is my escape but also my biggest fear as well. I can put myself into many extreme, heavy positions that most people would think is crazy but that is also when I get the most  freedom. It is where I find my peace and when I am most happy. I fear not being able to go in or be around the ocean the rest of my life.

WHO WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO PHOTOGRAPH?

Anyone who charges. Whether that is a pro or some Grom I have never met before. I love to shoot my buddies since most of them charge in heavier shore-break waves but anyone who looks stoked and gets barreled are my favorite people to photograph. I have a strong admiration to shoot anyone who loves the ocean and can connect with it as I do.

NUMBER ONE ON YOUR BUCKET LIST?

Buy a vw bus and travel up and down the coastlines. I have really taken an interest in traveling since I started shooting photography and the adventure of finding new spots and breaks to shoot would be something I want to do a few times in my life. Exploring into unknown territories and becoming as remote as possible. Seeing and shooting places in the world I never would have expected to have gone if it wasn't for my love for photography. And what better of a place to start than right here up and down the California/Mexico coastline!

FAVORITE WAVES TO PHOTOGRAPH?:

Sunsets or sunrises with some clouds and a gorgeous backdrop. Big hollow tubes with crystal clear waters. Most of my pictures come from the wedge...but I really enjoy shooting in the Laguna and have really been in search for new spots around the LA / OC area.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WON THE LOTTERY?

Get some of the camera gear I have been saving up for...get a ticket to one of my favorite countries...and see how it pans out from there.

FAVORITE COUNTRY TO VISIT OR WANT TO VISIT?

French Polynesia (Tahiti) or Australia!
