Bodyboards Banned in New York City

New York City bans bodyboarding

Bye Bye Bodyboarding

Last week, the New York City Parks Department officially banned the use of "floatation devices" at all New York City beaches. Apparently, body boards fall into this floatation category, so you won't be seeing anyone shredding on any New York City nugs.

"For the first time in history, an ocean facing international city has banned the outright use of boogie boards," The Rockaway Times reported.

The rule was apparently introduced after some kids were swept out to sea during a recent hurricane.

“From what I understand, there were two young kids who got swept out on their boogie boards down around Beach 33rd during Bertha," Rockaway Beach Civic Association member Beth Perkins told The Gothamist.

While it sounds like New York City is just trying to keep bodyboarders safe, it's still a huge bummer for anybody looking to shred in the Big Apple.
