Others like South African Bodysurfer Craig Hansen response tells us a story worth sharing.
"Having grown up in Durban, South Africa, and my dad being a big time fisherman, we spend a great deal of our time around the ocean. I started bodysurfing from the age of 10 with my dad, uncle and cousin and can still remember my dad and uncle using there flip flops on their hands to get more speed.
Getting more creative, they decided to start designing their own board out of Masonite, then steaming the it to get their desired shape, then drill two holes for a strap and finally finishing it of by waterproofing the board with a fiberglass resin mixture. They even went as far as to add skegs on some of their boards.
My cousin still has one of the boards made by our dads and is kept hanging on his garage wall as a memory of all the good times we had in the water together. Bodysurfing/Handboarding is in my blood and is my passion, and having some of the best weather in the world here KZN, I am constantly on the search for bigger and better breaks along our coastline, all year round!
With the winter swell finally settled in, this will be the perfect opportunity for me to show my skills and promote the Slyde brand. Having owned two Slyde Boards for the last 4 years now (woody wedge and a standard wedge), and have had endless fun with my mates!
My mates who are 1st time riders are blown away by the performance and how easy they are to use. Just about every time I get out the ocean, I have at least one person approach me asking about the board and where they can buy one. There is a definite market for Slyde here in KZN. So if given this great opportunity to become part of the team, you will be sure to see some epic footage of me shredding the KZN coastline, representing Slyde!"
