San Clemente shaping legend

Timmy Patterson was introduced to surfboard shaping as a child. His father, Ronald and uncles, Raymond and Robert, moved to California in the early 50's from Oahu, Hawaii. Their father (Ronald, Raymond and Robert's) made surfboards in Hawaii, so it was only natural for the three brothers to work at the Hobie factory in Dana Point when it opened.

Timmy grew up in that factory and learned how to shape from legends like Dale Velzy, Mickey Munoz and Terry Martin. Timmy learned all of the aspects of the board building process, including shaping, laminating, hot coating, sanding, glossing, fin production, and air brushing. When he was 18, he started shaping longboards for Hobie. He was getting requests from his friends to make them short boards, and that is when he branched off on his own, and started his own label, T. Patterson.
