Point Break fans can rejoice! The remake of the classic surf movie starring Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves is officially in production! Dylan McNeil posted an amazing video on Vimeo of some surfers taking on a massive Jaws session in Maui during some stunt filming for the movie. According to Surf Europe, this is the biggest Jaws has been since the 2009-2010 year.
The surf stunts for the new Point Break are being performed by big wave surfer Ian Walsh, Jaws surfer Ahanu Tson-Dru and big wave surfer Makua Rothman. While big wave surfer Laird Hamilton was out there with the Point Breakfilm crew too, Surf Europe reported that he was not there for the movie stunts. He just wanted a piece of that 50-foot action at Jaws! (Right Photo Credit: Bryan Berkowitz)
The new Point Breakmovie with not be a prequel or a sequel, but a reboot of the original. While the cast has not been assigned, it has been rumored that Gerard Butler will be starring as Bodhi in the movie. While Butler was reportedly in the boat during the Point Break Jaws session, sources say he wasn't in the water (Surf Europe). Last time, Butler nearly drowned while shooting the surf movie, Chasing Mavericks, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Ericson Core, cinematographer for The Fast and the Furious, as well as Soul Surfer stunt coordinator Brian Kaulana are officially working on the upcoming Point Break. Sounds like it's shaping up to be one heck of a surf movie!
