Billabong Tahiti Pro
Perfection came in 10 to 15-foot waves to Teahupoo for the opening day of the seventh stop on the Samsung Galaxy World Championship Tour. Four-time event winner Kelly Slater closed out the first round of the Billabong Pro Tahiti with a 9.0 ride.
"I’m so excited that I’m shaking. I need to calm myself down because I’m too excited," Slater said. "It’s going to be a great week and I think it’s going to get considerably bigger than this.”

Australian three-time world champion Mick Fanning defeated Brazilian Alejo Muniz and fellow Aussie Mitch Coleborn for a Heat Four win. Yet another Australian rider, Nathan Hedge, scored the first Perfect 10 of the event as a wildcard entry.
Polynesian surfer and wildcard entry Taumata Puhetini was taken to the hospital for scans as a precaution after his wipeout on the reef break during his Round 2 ride. Puhetini is in stable condition and said to be in good spirits, according to ASP.
