The Ventura Bodysurfing Classic returns to the winter roster Saturday Dec 1st 2018.

A mellow coastal city just northwest of Los Angeles, Ventura has been lighting up the bodysurfing destinations map.

Hosted by South Jetty Swells and sponsored by DMC Fins with  special awards ceremony, dinner and celebration to follow at Slyde Team Rider Spencer McGarth's ranch.  This event promises to be a thrilling day for all.

The Bodysurfing Contest includes 5 divisions:
Women's Open
Junior Men's
Men's
Senior Men's
Grommet/Beginners under 14

We were stoked to catch up with Slyde brand ambassador  Josh Ball
to get the inside track on bodysurfing in Ventura.

How would you best describe the break where the contest is taking place?

Sandy bottom beach right next to the Ventura harbor. With two jetties on either side of the beach, shoulders come from the right and left depending on the swell. Sandbars on the outside make for fun long rides and on the inside, you can find hollow shore breaks.

Any tips you would give to someone competing in the contest for the 1st time?

Be prepared for anything! Depending on the day the winter swell can bring sloppy monster waves that wall up, lake-like conditions, or perfect glassy shoulders…you never know.

What were 2 highlights from last year’s contest?Just having a body surf contest in my hometown!

The community, Ventura is known for its surfers, but there is a huge community of bodysurfers, you just have to look a bit harder.

What are you most looking forward to this year?

Being more involved in organizing the competition and supporting South Jetty Swells Bodysurfing Association…and epic conditions on comp day of course!
